Twitter is For Narcissists
Are social networks making students more narcissistic?
A new study shows that college students believe social networks like Facebook and Twitter have made them more narcissistic. The survey participants also are eager to claim the title of most narcissistic generation. Of the respondents, more than half (57 percent) said social networking sites are used for “self-promotion, narcissism and attention-seeking.” While it is slightly comforting college students acknowledge their self-obsession, it cannot be concluded that social networks are solely responsible for increasing vanity. The nature of the medium requires users to regularly update and contribute personal information in order to maintain the on-going dialogue. It’s not that social networking sites cause narcissism, rather provide a better platform for the behavior to be displayed.
